Exciting News for NAIFA California!

I am incredibly pleased and a little bit sad to share some very exciting news that our own National Committeeperson, Tom Michel, has been chosen by NAIFA National to serve on the 2015-2016 National Board as an appointed Trustee. This is an incredible honor for Tom, as well as NAIFA-California. Think about it…with 50 states in our federation and many qualified individuals, it was our own Mr. Michel who was tapped to help lead our National organization.

Why was Tom chosen? Was it his unwavering commitment to NAIFA at both the local and state level? Did they notice the incredible work Tom has done in California during our transition from our previous executive team? Possibly someone at National caught wind of the many accolades Tom has received at the Local level including the NAIFA Los Angeles Will G. Ferrell award. It may have even been Tom’s commitment as a retail agent focused on client-centric solutions and training a team of top notch advisors within his own agency. Some might say it is his incredible sense of ethics and integrity. My suspicion is that it is probably all of the above. Regardless of which one of Tom’s talents caused him to be called, as usual, Tom has heeded the call for the betterment of our association and our industry.

With Tom’s exit we have a huge hole in our NAIFA California team. Thankfully, when there is a call to act, the best of NAIFA-California steps up. In the case of Tom’s departure, we have secured one of the best, to step in and fill Tom’s role with the same level of intelligence, commitment, history and sage advice we expect from our National Committeeperson. Mike Ables, our 2014-2015 Distinguished Service Award recipient has once again dusted off his Roberts Rules manual and agreed to help run the incredible organization that is NAIFA-California. As sad as I am to see Tom depart for the bright lights of Falls Church, Virginia, I am comforted to know that we will not skip a beat on the incredible plans for NAIFA-California as Mike will be there to help guide us along.

On behalf of NAIFA-California and our members, I thank Tom for his incredible tenure; and I personally thank both Tom and Mike for showing me how a true leader responds when faced with a challenge. With both Tom’s past work and the work Mike will be doing, rest assured that NAIFA-California is on track to continue to be the voice of the agent for our members and their clients for years to come.
