After 13 years of service to Fresno County and California, the leader of the legislature’s unofficial moderate Democratic caucus, Assemblyman Henry Perea (D-Fresno), announced this week he will resign from his post in the Assembly at the end of the year, effective December 31st. First elected to the Fresno seat in 2010, Perea will leave the legislature one year before his term was set to expire. In his announcement, Perea cited he would remain in government relations circles, taking one of a couple of coveted career opportunities that have been presented to him in the sector. Whatever his decision, he would not be permitted to lobby for one year under the state’s revolving door law.  Those vying to replace Perea are Democrat Joaquin Arambula and Republican Fresno City Councilman Clint Olivier, both of whom were already campaigning for the Assembly seat in 2016.
