I am incredibly proud and fortunate to have served as NAIFA-California’s 82nd President for the 2015-16 Association year.

I take great pride in what we have been able to accomplish as a State through the efforts of hundreds of State and Local volunteers, as well as our Executive Management team at The Grassley Group. I am proud that over 80 of our members attended NAIFA-California’s “Day on the Hill” last February. It was our first “Day on the Hill” in over five years, and we expect to continue attending in the coming years and even grow as we move forward. These grassroots efforts with our state legislature are paramount to our political voice remaining strong.

I am proud of the more than 40 attendees at our Washington D.C. “Congressional Conference,” where NAIFA was the leading voice on addressing onerous regulations with the Department of Labor Fiduciary Rule. NAIFA was the force behind a bi-partisan push to develop a working interpretation of this rule, and we are still working aggressively today to ensure you retain the ability to plan for and protect your clients’ future. I am proud that NAIFA-California remains the largest state in the NAIFA Federation, and a leader on issues that affect our Federation.

I am proud that two of the four chosen NAIFA Young Advisor Team (YAT) “Four Under Forty” are members of NAIFA-California. Ryan Pinney and Eszylfie Taylor are incredible examples of the talent we have developed in our state, and I think a good indication of the future ahead, and it looks very bright indeed. I am also incredibly proud that NAIFA has recognized the talented individuals that have come before me to help lead our association on the National stage. I count Jill Judd and Tom Michel as dear friends, and will be proud to represent both in Las Vegas this September; Jill as she is put forth as the NAIFA Secretary and ultimately President of NAIFA in 2018-19, and Tom as he embarks on his role as elected National Trustee.

I am proud that I believe I have left NAIFA-California in a better state than when I arrived. I know this is true because I can see the leadership that follows me on your state board, and can state with certainty that we have some of the most committed, effective, caring and professional volunteers to lead our great association.

As proud as I am of all that you have accomplished for our industry, I take from my time as your state President the great fortune of the many relationships I have built and continue to enjoy during my time as a NAIFA member. From the local associations and committee members to my own state board and staff, I have been blessed to work and interact with the most caring, ethical, fun, intelligent and committed individuals anyone could ever hope to know in their life. I will always look back on my years of service with great pride, but more than pride, gratitude for all that you have done for me.
