NAIFA-Greater Foothills - National Committeeman Ara Aharonian and Secretary Elizabeth Angeles met with State Senator (District 25) Anthony Portantino in his District Office in Glendale, on Friday June 9 at 10:30 AM. During their 35 minute meeting in his newly relocated office in Glendale; and, in the presence of his District Director Ms. Talin Mangioghlou, NAIFA-Greater Foothills discussed the various Bills that are on the Senate floor, especially, NAIFA’s position on SB 562 (which passed as amended in the Senate vote). SB 562 was thoroughly discussed with its possible impact on the 1.3 million employees in the California health industry! Senator Portantino stated the actions of potential Federal change compelled the State Senate to take action within the state to maintain our state’s commitment in the area of healthcare.  State Senator Portantino mentioned that is on the Assembly floor for debate and final vote toward the end of July. Since then, SB562 has been tabled for Assembly review and deliberation.

NAIFA-Greater Foothills is totally committed to taking the “NAIFA message” to all our Assemblypersons before mid-July! Our elected officials must be educated! As Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon states "...Because this is the first year of a two-year session, this action does not mean SB 562 is dead. In fact, it leaves open the exact deep discussion and debate the senators who voted for SB 562 repeatedly said is needed..." We have the tools. Now is the time to act!!
