HAPPY NEW YEAR!

With 2017 history, it’s time to kick it in gear for 2018. By now you should have your goals and plans written, and have shared them with the people who are interested in your career. I especially hope you started with your family.

2018 is going to be a very interesting year for our industry. On the state level, we are watching Single Payer Health Insurance, Long Term Care product approvals, agent continuing education and ethics, and homeowners’ insurance.

On the national level, it will be even more critical. With the Republicans trying to basically ignore the Democrats out of discussions, NAIFA continues to keep an eye on several issues on a daily basis. It is no secret that Washington, D.C. looks to us for money to further their agendas.

Recently the NAIFA-California Government Relations Chair stated that the five top items they were keeping an eye on were:

1. Promoting financial literacy;

2. Supporting a tax regime that encourages main street investments and savings;

3. Prevention of elder financial exploitations;

4. Protection of client data;

5. Enhancing access to professional advice.

The last item is very interesting, as normally everyone serving our government states they do not understand our industry and want to be educated. That is the reason we need to stay strong in membership, and continue to contribute to IFAPAC.

Speaking of contributing to IFAPAC, I was pleased to learn the 100% of the NAIFA professional staff at NAIFA headquarters contributed to IFAPAC in 2016, and were on pace to do the same in 2017.100%! They got it!

It’s time for those interested in serving as a Trustee on the NAIFA-California board to get their applications in. The Nominating Committee will meet in Sacramento on February 27.  We need you to step up, and give of your time and talent on the state level. Please contact any board member if you have any questions or interest in serving.

The Career Advancement Conference plans are moving at a fast pace. Do not forget we are combining Day on the Hill (May 16) with the CAC this year. What an exciting three days, May 16-18.

Again, Happy New Year. I wish you nothing but success and happiness.

Remember that NAIFA Makes A Difference. Are you doing your fair share?
